Build a Rink

Permanent Rinks

Whether your project is an outdoor permanent rink, indoor skating center or 16,000 seat arena, Everything Ice is your single source for reliable and efficient ice rink construction.

Permanent rinks require engineering and craftsmanship to provide the needed longevity. Using common sense construction principles, we believe the success of the rink starts with a good foundation. That is why all of our permanent installations include a Frost Shield Sub Soil Heating System in conjunction with Laser Level Fine Grading. The Frost Shield will defend against any future possibilities of underfloor heaving due to ice

Laser Grading

In construction, the quality of the finished product is determined by the quality of the foundation. This is especially true when building ice rink floors.

The fine grading process done on the lower sand layer is often regarded as the single most important factor affecting the quality and energy efficiency of the ice sheet. Having a perfectly level, compacted base on which to build a rink is even more important

The machine is driven over the sand floor while the laser control does the work, readjusting the blade every half-second. The outcome is a consistent floor that measures dead level over the entire ice sheet.

Benefits of the Laser-Operated Grader:

  • Reduced construction window for rink installation. The grader eliminates several days’ work.
  • Better energy efficiency for your rink because ice is smooth. No high spots caused by tolerance flaws.
  • More consistent ice temperatures. True leveling of the base for the rink piping system means no more soft spots.
  • Noise and excessive cracking sand floors is reduced because insulation sheets lay flat against the sand base.
  • Improved performance. Skaters report that ice made on a laser-graded, sand-base floor feels and performs like ice over concrete flooring.
  • Easier to maintain. Because you begin with a level surface, ice thickness remains even and easy to care for.
  • For concrete floors, too, laser grading provides the best possible structural integrity by developing a solid base first.

Perma Ice - Permanent sand base floor

Perma Ice is used for sand base ice making systems and uses the same tough, energy efficient tubing proven with our Porta Ice product line.

Perma Ice is pre fabricated in 4’ wide rolls, making installation fast and easy. Each roll consists of 32 heat transfer tubes spaced every 1 ½”. Because of the size and location of the Perma Ice heat transfer tubes, the floor can be fed with an “ in floor, mid rink header”, or an end feed header.

Perma Ice is ideal for new installations, placement over existing concrete floors or for repair of a failed rink floor. It has proven effective in placement directly over failed direct floor systems or indirect systems which have developed leaks from calcium chloride use.

Perma Ice requires no service in a sand floor. Unlike 1” plastic tubing, Perma Ice is easy to repair should a leak occur.

Additional Perma Ice Advantages:

  • Greater heat transfer area for a 66% increase in efficiency and ice quality
  • Very low pump HP requirements
  • Operates with all secondary fluid solutions at low pressure drops
  • Easy and fast to install, service and repair
  • Close pipe spacing assures no soft spots
  • Can easily be converted from a sand floor to concrete
  • Time tested, proven over hundreds of installations
  • Installs in 4’ wide mats for less than half the installation man hours of competitive systems

Rapid Ice - Concrete multi-purpose floor

Divider (blue)

Rapid Ice is a high performance piping system for ice making with a refrigerated concrete multipurpose rink floor. Our specialized polymer tubing works efficiently with all secondary rink fluids and is non-corrosive, providing an indefinite lifespan, unlike steel systems which corrode.

The spacing and heat transfer surface area can easily handle the highest load demands. Each system is engineered to provide uniform flow and temperature throughout all points on the skating surface.

Unique to concrete floor design, Rapid Ice is designed with the following design elements to ensure longevity, durability and peak performance.

  • Depending on the heat load requirements, tubing will be spaced at either 4”, 3.5” or 3” on center to maximize heat absorption
  • 1” Tubing maximizes heat transfer and flow rates, creating added efficiency
  • Specialized U –Bends to eliminate leaks
  • Poly Fusion welding design. This newer type of technology allows for a seamless system free from leaks and corrosion.
