| Frost Shield |
| Floor heaving from frost and expansive
soil materials is a serious matter when constructing a rink.
Rinks that operate year-round or for extended seasons should
install a sub-soil heating system to avoid potential
problems. Frost heaving could destroy a complex and should
not be taken lightly. Frost-Shield is a subsoil heating
system placed beneath the rink floor to eliminate this
condition. Frost-Shield is hydronic pipe heating system encased within a sand layer below the rink floor insulation membrane. The piping system is virtually seamless with only a few connections to the distribution header, making the system extremely reliable over its design life. An anti-freeze solution is circulated through the Frost-Shield piping, to maintain the soil below the rink just above freezing temperature. Heat for the solution is derived from the refrigeration system’s discharge heat. Various Frost-Shield designs exist for new construction and retro-fit applications to handle some of the most demanding applications. For operators installing seasonal rinks today with possible expansion to year-round ice in the future, why not just install the tubing, less mechanical equipment? This arrangement reduces the investment today while not limiting your operational format tomorrow. Ask your Everything Ice representative for more information about this process. |
